Thank’s for the question! What I find most interesting about the brain is that biology has found (by evolution) the most efficient computer that could possibly be made.

To explain, you can think about the brain as like a computer, and all the cells that make up the brain are in fact little computers themselves – they have memory, they can do (specific) calculations and they operate using electricity. Some neuroscientists have worked out that the energy used by a brain cell to send one pulse of information to another cell is the smallest it could possibly be in our universe.

This means that our brains are as energy efficient as the Universe’s laws allow! If we could copy this into our computers (and phones and all electrical devices) we could massively reduce the amount of electricity we need to generate and consume. Copying the way the brain works in computer devices is often called ‘neuromorphic computing’.
