I am a Lecturer and live with my family in Cork. I teach computer science modules and research in the area of cloud computing and cybersecurity. I like going out for a run and watching action movies.
Dr. Vincent C. Emeakaroha is currently a Lecturer in the Computer Science Department, Munster Technological University Cork (MTU). He graduated from Vienna University of Technology (TUWien) Austria in 2006 with a BSc in Computer Engineering, a MSc in Software Engineering & Internet Computing (2008), a MSc in Informatics Management (2009); and a PhD in Computer Science with distinction (2012). The focus of his PhD was on Cloud service provisioning management and Service Level Agreement (SLA) enforcement techniques. In this regard, he developed novel monitoring frameworks for supervising the performance of Cloud services and for evaluating their agreed SLA terms. In October 2010, he was a visiting researcher at the Technical University of Catalunya Barcelona Spain.
Vincent participated in the European Commission’s COST Action on Energy Efficient Large Scale Distributed System. He has worked in different research projects over the years including the Foundations of Self-governing ICT Infrastructures (FoSII) project funded by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) and Holistic Energy Efficient Approach for the Management of Hybrid Clouds (HALEY) funded by the Vienna University of Technology Science Award.
He was previously a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce affiliated with University College Cork (UCC) where he worked in close collaboration with industry in developing Cloud monitoring solutions, efficient communication mechanisms and interoperability techniques.
Over the years, Vincent has served in several international conference technical program committees including CLOUD, CLOSER, UCC, etc. He is currently serving as a guest editor for the international Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Journal of Computer and Electrical Engineering. He has authored many peer-reviewed publications in international journals, conferences and book chapters. Vincent is an IEEE and ACM member. His research areas of interest include resource management in large-scale distributed systems, Cloud service provisioning management, data gathering and analytics, Internet of Things integration with Clouds, Cloud Interoperability, Cyber security, energy efficiency, SLA and QoS management. His hobbies include going for a run, watching movies and reading news articles.
My Typical Day
My typical workday varies depending on my scheduled appointments. I wake up early to prepare my kids for school and I have to be on campus at 8:45 AM when I have 9AM teaching appointment otherwise, I could come to campus later in the day. When I am done with teaching, I do some administration tasks, reply emails and work on my teaching materials. In between, I do find time to eat lunch and catch-up with colleagues. I do work on my research on some days that include reading published articles, reviewing articles for publication, implementing some new ideas to provide a proof of concept for publications. I usually go home at 6pm to avoid the close of business traffic jam. I can also go home earlier and work from home. I can say that my time is quite flexible.
What I'd do with the prize money
I would use the money to engage with international students to motivate them to study in Ireland. I am fortunate to be part of our university international student recruitment team. I do offer students mentor-ship as well.
